The Desert Under the Sun

It was a playground of endless mirages. She constantly saw them. They tantalized her. She saw oases throughout. Every time she came close to one it immediately showed itself for what is was. Sand, just endless, brutal sand.

She knew what this was, this was a desert of her own loneliness. The desert that denied her what she wanted. What she wanted was her freedom, but the desert told her no you cannot have your freedom. What you have been given is your fate and your destiny. This is something you cannot refuse.

And yet she still desired to refuse it. And so, she gazed at the sun and wished she could be like the sun, reaching its lofty heights. But even the sun tantalized her, and it also said to her that she could never be like it, that she was stuck on the earth, trapped in the Desert Under the Sun.
