The God spoke to them and proclaimed His verdict. The Judges ordained it. The fates made it so. The cycle was as it always was.
And the God would have His way. There was nothing to it. The seasons would change as He ordained it, but first He required payment for the services He rendered to those below, the people who worshipped Him, who adored Him, invoking His name to receive His divine favors. What would happen if they failed? The cosmos would break.
The payments they gave Him, He lived off of them. They gave Him sustenance. And as such they were what maintained the order of the world. The Judges were the beings that came before. They ordained it so. It was the Judges, before they were destroyed by the Dragon who decided it.
And it was He who kept the Dragon locked away in the Abyss. But the only way to do this was with the Payments.
It was death, sacrifices of pure souls given from every nation year after year that kept the seal in place. It was the blood that kept Him strong, strong enough to protect the cosmos from the Dragon.
He had fought the Dragon long ago. It was a terrible beast, a monster that had devoured each of the Seven Judges, as well as the sun, moon, and stars, until there was nothing left but He and the Dragon. The Judges knew that the Dragon was destined to come, so they created the God so that He could save the cosmos. And when the Dragon was born, the God awoke, tearing through the sky like thunder. He smote it with His hammer and fist, forcing it to regurgitate all that it ate.
And with the cosmos restored to its former glory, the Dragon was thrown into the abyss.
Ever since then the God has waited for the Dragon’s inevitable return.
